Regardless of the product or service you sell, the fundamentals of a small business are very similar, if not exact. I came into the window cleaning business after owning a retail business for 14 years.

Everything I had learned in marketing for that particular business was incorporated into my window cleaning business right from the start. From there, all I had to do was the actual window cleaning, and in just two months I had almost 200 commercial and residential accounts.

The credit for this success goes directly to those who very patiently mentored me within the business community. My particular problem was not getting the business, it was figuring out how I was going to keep all of the promises for service I had just made with my new clients.

I realize that this is not the case for everyone who starts a window cleaning business, and some of the people we have helped through this online business suggested we expand on some of our marketing and advertising ideas. Thus was the impetus for this training guide.

I sincerely hope it is a very useful tool for your new business, and I wish you great success as a fellow businessperson in the cleaning industry! Once you gather together some ideas to begin your marketing campaign, you should begin to formulate a marketing plan - either in you head or on paper.

I prefer to list ideas in a draft-style, and then write out a detailed plan. It always best to have a written plan, and then post it somewhere you will see it every day.

Please don’t make the mistake of burying your plan under a pile of papers on your desk, or sticking it somewhere in your briefcase where it will not be seen on a regular basis.

Also, set realistic goals and plan a strategy that is aggressive, but not too exhausting. You want to challenge yourself, but at the same time you want to avoid burnout.

Remember, a great success is nothing more than a combination of smaller successes that happen step by step. Your time and energy will eventually pay off, but you need to plan on it taking some time and effort.
